Human Design Authority

Your Human Design Authority is not your opinion. It's not your gut feeling in the colloquial sense. It's a specific, identifiable part of your body that carries reliable intelligence — and it's different for every type.

The mind is for processing information. It's not built for decision-making — at least not for the decisions that shape a life. Human Design identifies a specific decision-making centre in each person that is more reliable than any mental deliberation. Learning yours — and using it — is the practical core of the system.

Sacral Authority

~47% of people

Most Generators and Manifesting Generators

The Sacral is a primal response system that speaks before the mind does. Not in words — in sounds and physical sensations. An 'uh-huh' means yes. An 'unh-uh' means no. The gut knows first. The job is to ask yes-or-no questions and listen before the mind talks its way into or out of an answer.

How to practise it

Ask yourself yes/no questions out loud. Notice the gut response before you think about the answer. That first bodily reaction is the decision.

Emotional Authority

~50% of people

Some Generators, Manifesting Generators, Projectors, and Manifestors

There is no truth in the now. The Emotional Authority operates on a wave — moving through highs and lows, excitement and flatness. The correct decision isn't the one that feels exciting in this moment. It's the one that still feels right at the bottom of the wave, in the low. Waiting through the emotional cycle before committing is not hesitation — it's wisdom.

How to practise it

Never commit at the height of excitement or depth of despair. Sleep on it. Check in across days. The answer that remains constant through the wave is correct.

Splenic Authority

~11% of people

Some Projectors, Manifestors, and a few others

The Spleen speaks once, quietly, in the moment. It doesn't repeat itself. It doesn't explain itself. A subtle, in-the-body knowing — fear, or its absence — arrives as a single signal about the immediate present. If you second-guess it, the moment has already passed. Splenic Authority requires learning to trust a whisper over a shout.

How to practise it

Slow down. Notice the subtle first impression — the instant read on a situation, person, or choice. That first quiet response is the authority. Everything after is the mind.

Ego Authority

~2% of people

Some Manifestors and a few Projectors

The Ego or Heart centre is the will — the question of desire and commitment. For Ego-Manifested types, the authority is direct: what do I want to do? What am I willing to commit to? For Ego-Projected types, the authority comes through speaking it: talking out loud with the right person reveals whether the desire is real or not.

How to practise it

Ask yourself: 'Do I actually want this?' Not 'should I want this?' Not 'is it good for me?' Just: do I want it? The honest answer is the authority.

Self-Projected Authority

~3% of people

Some Projectors

The G centre — the seat of direction, love, and identity — is the anchor. Self-Projected Projectors find their clarity by speaking out loud, ideally with someone who is simply listening without advising. The act of speaking reveals what's true. The right answer emerges from the sound of your own voice — not from what the listener says back.

How to practise it

Find a trusted listener and talk the decision through. Notice what comes out of your mouth — not what you planned to say. Your truth is in what you actually say out loud.

Mental / Outer Authority

~2% of people

Mental Projectors

Mental Projectors have no defined centres below the Throat — no internal authority to consult. Instead, their clarity comes through conversation and environment. The right people, in the right place, talking through the decision until the right choice becomes visible. It's not one conversation — it's the process of being heard by multiple people and letting clarity accumulate.

How to practise it

Talk to multiple trusted people across time. Not for advice — for the act of speaking and being heard. Your right environment and the right people are prerequisites, not bonuses.

Lunar Authority

Less than 1%

Reflectors

Reflectors have no defined centres and therefore no fixed inner authority. Their authority is time — a full 28-day lunar cycle. Each day, as the moon transits different gates, a Reflector's perspective on a decision shifts. The decision that still feels right across the full cycle — through the highs and lows, the different environments and conversations — is the correct one.

How to practise it

For any major decision, give it the full moon. Journal daily. Notice which days the answer feels like yes, which days no. The consistent answer across the cycle is the authority.
